About Northstar Academy South Bay
Northstar Academy South Bay is a mentorship-based hybrid homeschool program serving students ages 5–12 in San Pedro, California.
Our mission is to help children develop confidence, curiosity, responsibility, independence, and leadership through meaningful learning experiences, strong mentorship, and real-world opportunities for growth.
We believe education is about more than academics. We are building a learning community where students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, develop strong character, and develop skills that will serve them throughout life.
Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate, dependable, and growth-minded Teacher / Mentor / Academic Coach to join our team on a part-time basis.
This role goes beyond traditional teaching. The ideal candidate enjoys building meaningful relationships with children, supporting independent learners, facilitating discussions and projects, and helping students develop confidence, responsibility, communication skills, and a love of learning.
The Teacher / Mentor / Academic Coach will help create a positive learning environment where students feel challenged, supported, and empowered to grow.
Responsibilities
● Support students in their academic learning and individual goals
● Facilitate engaging learning experiences, discussions, and projects
● Encourage independence, ownership, critical thinking, and problem-solving
● Build positive relationships with students and families
● Foster a culture of curiosity, respect, responsibility, and personal growth
● Collaborate with fellow team members to create a strong learning community
● Serve as a mentor and positive role model for students
Qualifications
● Experience in teaching, tutoring, mentoring, coaching, homeschooling, youth programs, child development, or related fields preferred
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills
● Ability to build positive relationships with children and families
● Dependable, proactive, and adaptable
● Passion for working with children and supporting their growth
● Alignment with Northstar Academy South Bay’s mission and values
● Willingness to learn, grow, and collaborate as part of a team
A college degree is not required. We value character, experience, initiative, and alignment with our mission as much as formal education.
