Job Summary
The Philadelphia Inquirer is seeking a News Reporter Intern with a focus on politics to support coverage of local, state, and regional government across the Philadelphia area.
This is a 9-week, paid, full-time internship running from June through August 2026.
What You’ll Do
Report on breaking news and developing stories across a wide range of topics
Write timely, accurate stories while continuously updating coverage as events unfold throughout the day
Identify stories that go beyond breaking news coverage
Monitor news trends and respond quickly to emerging stories
Conduct interviews and gather information from diverse sources to support reporting
Collaborate with reporters, editors, and other members of the news team
Complete a final capstone project summarizing your experience and key takeaways
Who We’re Looking For
Must be attending an accredited college or university
Rising juniors or seniors studying journalism, communications, or a related field, as well as recent graduates and current graduate students
Experience working for a college news outlet; prior professional internship experience is a plus
Strong understanding of digital media platforms and audience engagement
Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and journalistic ethics
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Willingness to learn new tools, formats, and reporting techniques
A strong sense of curiosity and interest in sports, culture, and community impact
Commitment to contributing to an inclusive and collaborative newsroom environment
