Job Description: High School English Teacher
Location: Guangzhou, China

Position Overview
We are seeking a fully qualified native English-speaking High School English Teacher to join our secondary school faculty in Guangzhou. The successful candidate will deliver rigorous English language and literature instruction to high school students, design engaging lesson plans, conduct ongoing student assessment, collaborate with department colleagues, and participate in school-wide academic and extracurricular activities. This is a full-time permanent teaching position.
Key Responsibilities
1. Prepare and deliver structured, age-appropriate English lessons covering reading, writing, speaking, listening, literary analysis and academic communication for high school learners.
2. Develop semester teaching plans, unit schemes of work, formative and summative assessments aligned with the school’s curriculum standards.
3. Track student academic progress, provide timely written and verbal feedback, complete report cards, and hold regular parent-teacher conferences.
4. Manage classroom behaviour effectively, create an inclusive, positive learning atmosphere for students with mixed language abilities.
5. Participate in weekly English department meetings, curriculum review, peer observations and school professional development training.
6. Lead or assist English-related extracurricular activities, including speech contests, reading clubs, drama workshops and literary events.
7. Cooperate with homeroom teachers, counsellors and school leadership to support students’ holistic growth and wellbeing.
8. Complete all required administrative work, including lesson documentation, attendance records and teaching resource organisation.
Mandatory Essential Requirements (Non-negotiable)
1. **Native English Speaker**: Must hold citizenship from an official native English-speaking country (UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland).
2. **Minimum Master’s Degree**: Master’s qualification is compulsory. Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees must be in English, English Literature, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, TESOL or other language/education related disciplines.
3. **Formal Teaching Certification**: Possess PGCE with QTS, American state teaching license, Canadian provincial teaching certificate, Australian VIT/QLT or other globally recognised equivalent secondary teaching credential.
4. **Professional Teaching Experience**: A minimum of 2 years full-time formal high school English teaching experience in mainstream secondary schools. Tutoring, online education or commercial training centre experience will not be counted toward this requirement.
5. **Start Time Availability**: Able to arrive in Guangzhou and commence full-time employment in August as scheduled.
## Preferred Desirable Criteria
1. Prior teaching experience in international/bilingual high schools in China or Asia.
2. Familiarity with IGCSE, A-Level, AP or IB English curriculum frameworks.
3. Experience organising student English competitions, literary events or after-school language programmes.
4. Strong cross-cultural communication skills, patient and adaptable to Chinese school working culture.
5. Clean background check / DBS / police clearance certificate from home country.
