CNA Hospice Aide / Certified Nursing Assistant

Job Summary

The hospice aide is a paraprofessional member of the interdisciplinary group who works under the supervision of a registered nurse and performs various services for a patient as necessary to meet the patient's personal needs and to promote comfort. The hospice aide is responsible for observing the patient, reporting observations, and documenting care performed. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform personal care needs, including bathing, oral hygiene, and changing bed linen
  • Assist with dressing and undressing patients
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals
  • Take and record vital signs
  • Provide proper care and observation of patient's skin
  • Report on patient's condition and significant changes
  • Assist in ambulation and exercise
  • Offer and assist with bedpans and urinals
  • Perform range of motion and other simple procedures
  • Keep patient's living area clean and orderly
  • Adhere to documentation and care procedures
  • Participate in quality assessment performance improvement teams

Job Requirements

  • Successful completion of a state-established or other training program
  • Meets the training requirements of the State
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions
  • Understanding of hospice philosophy
  • Satisfactory references from previous employers
  • Self-directing with the ability to work with little supervision
  • Empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail, and impaired
  • Current CPR certification
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
