Job Description

IU Health Medical Group East Region-Cardiovascular Surgery is seeking a board-certified experienced cardiothoracic surgeon to join our highly collaborative team at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana.  This is an exceptional opportunity for a surgeon looking to step into a high-impact role with strong mentorship and collaborative environment.  Given the close proximity to the northside of Indianapolis, this surgeon can also reside in a great suburb such as Fishers which is #2 in the nation in U.S. News & World Report’s 2026–2027 Best Places to Live! Position Highlights
  • Full-time (1.0 FTE); Weekdays plus call
  • Clinical focus: Inpatient, OR, outpatient clinic
  • Patient volume:  Clinic and Hospital: 10–20 patients/week (may vary)
Practice & Team This is an established cardiovascular surgery group with:
  • 3 cardiothoracic surgeons 
  • 3 experienced advanced practice providers; also support weekend rounding and call
  • Dedicated support staff 
  • Shared call
  • Collegial, team-oriented environment with strong physician leadership
  • Close collaboration with cardiology, anesthesiology, and critical care
  • Teaching opportunities with residents, full research department; academic affiliation potential with IU School of Medicine
  • No local competition 

Clinical Scope
This position offers a broad and complex case mix with steady procedural demand, including:
  • Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
  • Valve repair and replacement
  • Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)
  • Robotic thoracic surgery
  • Lung resections (including wedge resections) 
Candidate Qualifications
  • Board Certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Completion of Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship 
  • Experienced surgeons strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality outcomes and patient-centered care
  • Interest in mentoring and long-term growth within the practice
