History Teacher (AP Programme)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic History Teacher to teach Advanced Placement (AP) History courses at an international high school in Shanghai.

The successful candidate will deliver rigorous, engaging lessons that develop students’ historical knowledge, analytical thinking, and academic writing skills, preparing them for success in AP examinations and entry to leading universities worldwide.

Key responsibilities include:

• Teaching Advanced Placement History courses such as AP World History, AP European History, and/or AP United States History.
• Planning and delivering high-quality lessons that encourage critical thinking, historical analysis, and academic discussion.
• Preparing students for AP examinations, including source analysis, essay writing, and document-based questions (DBQs).
• Designing assessments and providing constructive feedback to support student progress.
• Monitoring and reporting on student achievement and academic development.
• Contributing to curriculum planning and the development of the humanities programme.
• Participating in departmental meetings, moderation, and professional development activities.
• Supporting students with university preparation and academic guidance where appropriate.
• Contributing to the wider life of the school through extracurricular activities, clubs, or events.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in History or a related field.
• Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
• Experience teaching AP History courses at high school level.
• Strong subject knowledge and ability to teach historical analysis and academic writing.
• Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
• Commitment to high academic standards and student success.

Desirable:

• Experience teaching multiple AP History courses.
• Experience working in an international school environment.
• Experience supporting students applying to universities in the US, UK, or other international destinations.
